How much is the living wage in the Philippines?

Why did U.S. tax payers subsidize jobs at the San Francisco Living Wage Coaltion as part of the stimulus?

  • I read this article. Apparently the stimulus money has been subsidizing jobs at this place (San Francisco Living Wage Coaltion) for the past year or so. (These would be some of the "saved or created' jobs from the stimulus) The govt. is subsidizing the cost to hire and pay these people. They are currently making $11.03 per hour (which is appx 30 cents above what this org calls a "living wage" for a single person in California). However the stimulus money will run out on Friday if the benefits are not extended by Congress. What I find odd is that the mission of this organization is basically to push a progressive Democrat agenda. (ie "Universal Health Care, Progressive Taxation of Corporations and the Wealthy etc.") as well as pushing for the government to subsidize jobs so they qualify as living wages. It's also interesting to note that without subsidies this organization couldn't afford to pay these people "living wages". What the hell is going on? It would seem the government is subsidizing jobs for people whose job it is to push for more subsidized jobs from the government. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/27/demise-of-welfaretowork-p_n_740893.html Jaquayla Burton's job will end this week unless the Senate does an about-face and decides to preserve a welfare-to-work program that created more than 240,000 jobs as part of the stimulus bill....................The 2009 stimulus bill created an "Emergency Fund" that allowed states to subsidize jobs via the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program (TANF), formerly known as welfare. The Senate voted against reauthorizing the program in May. Last week Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) blocked a request to bring up a bill that contained a $1.5 billion reauthorization. Advocates of the program are not optimistic that a change of heart is afoot in the U.S. Senate......................Burton said her job as a community organizer with the San Francisco Living Wage Coalition, which she's held for the past nine months, is the first she's ever had. Kramer said Burton and the five other moms at his nonprofit earn $11.03 per hour and work 32 hours a week. They will all be let go come Friday. http://www.livingwage-sf.org/who-we-are/ The Living Wage Coalition is a grassroots movement of low-wage workers and their allies fighting for economic justice. We have been struggling since 1998 to change political priorities so that government does not subsidize poverty wage employers. We are engaged in a transformative rethinking of the economy that makes the goals of economic development a more prosperous, healthier and livable community.

its a way for tabloids like Huffington to fire up the left side of the spectrum. You believe far too much that you read on the internet.

I don't understand your complaint... it does take researchers, etc.. to examine what areas can be stimulated or to examine what areas have been hurt the most or to actually set up organizations to hire ppl.... what is the problem?
