Why didn't Bill Maher Catch more sh*t for his Choctaw comment?

  • Bill Maher recently gave a internet streaming show called "CrazyStupidPolitics". During the show, Mr. Maher discussed Donald Trump. Basically, Mr Maher said that Donald Trump was a horrible businessman. Maher said that the greatest piece of evidence for this is the fact that Mr. Trump's casinos went bankrupt. Maher then said, " “The only business where people give you money for nothing. Choctaw Indians can make this work!” I found it shocking. But, as I usually do, I did some mental word substitution to make sure my thinking was correct. In place of "Choctaw Indians" I put "Jews", "Blacks", "Women", and other demographic words. Yup, still outrageous and offensive. So, what I'm wondering, is how come no one seems to care. Is it because not many people actually know some Choctaw people personally? Is it because the Choctaw have little political power nationally? Is it because there aren't that many of them? I know there are a lot of people that pretty much don't care about degrading comments toward vulnerable groups. Whatever, that is what it is. But, where are the feminists? Where are the Latinos? Where are the Blacks? Where are the Jews? Why did people like this that were at the show or watching it online have nothing to say? Why does no one seemingly have nothing to say...period? After the show, I left a comment o Bill's Real Time website. I also emailed representatives of Choctaw Nation. For the record, I'm not Choctaw, have no relatives that are, and don't really know anything about their culture. But, I think I do have some grasp between right and wrong. I hope if you read this and agree with me, regardless of your demographic or political positions, you will shoot an email or do something.

    I'm Chickasaw (we're related to the Choctaw) and I'm not offended. Making money on Chickasaw or Choctaw casinos isn't rocket science. That's because both tribes border the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex and Texas has no casino gambling so we set them on the border and provide bus transportation to them. Trump had casinos in NJ, not that far from NYC. How could he not make them profitable?

You've misunderstood. He was using Choctaw Indians as an example of wildly unsuccessful people. Whatever else you might want to say about Jews, "wildly unsuccessful" is probably not one of them. Plus, the Choctows got burned by Jack Ambramoff so he was also using it as a dig at Republicans. That's what I love about Bill Maher. His comedy works on so many different levels!

He played it safe, as snarky little c*nts are prone to do. The specification of one Native tribe diminishes the responsibility of a broader generalization. He played the percentages, thus affirming his place in the male b*tch hall of fame.

He called Sarah Palin a dumb [email protected] to liberal logic he HATES WOMEN.

Maher hasn't half the audience that Rush does, and he's only on cable once a week. He just doesn't have the impact that Rush has. It was also a single sentence, not a tirade, and while not wonderful, it did express the fact that a minority can make something work, while a privileged, arrogant, prideful man can't. It's really not that negative, not great, but not base either. The other point is that this is one woman, slandered, libeled, misrepresented, and now subject to endless dirty 'jokes', for the remainder of her life, because Rush chose to make her a target. The Choctaw indians were not a target. He even attacked her family, all for saying something he disagreed with, she has a right to say what she thinks, that's the American way. This was nothing more than adult bullying, and its not acceptable.

Gee, do you think it could be because the Choctaw tribe owns casinos?
