Answer:
Clearly, you have never run a business. Competing with the government is impossible. they use the people's money to screw the people.

Because liberals don't know how to spell competition.
Let's have you try to run a company that competes against a tax supported competitor who spends money like a drunken sailor and has no end of funds.
The President is right when he says "I promise. . . " those who are happy with their current health insurance won't have to change. What he DOESN'T say is, the insurance companies will go out of business and the insurance we are familiar with will disappear; just like an American made pair of shoes or anything electronic.
Government will price private out of the market and out of business, thus we only have one option at that point. There would be no competition. But silly Democrats don't know how to think far enough into the future. I could sell them an iced feces cake and they would eat it before they took a look at it to tell it was #hit.
You are confusing the power the government has with the power private industry has. The government can just raise taxes in the producers to subsidize their artificially low prices. A private business cannot take away someones income by force to help them subsidize their costs. Now if the government plan does not use one dollar of our tax money and is funded only by premiums and co=pays from the people on the plan, I am all for it.
Private companies can't cut their cost below zero. The government takes money from you and me to pay for the uninsured. Why would I pay for the uninsured and my insurance? I will switch to the" free" government plan that I am already paying for. Employers will dump their insurance expenses because you can get "free" insurance that you are paying for with your taxes. So if I am paying taxes, should I pay for insurance I don't get on top of the insurance I do get? Do you get the picture? On top of that, if I want to see a doctor today, I have to go to a private clinic and pay for their services, or I can go to the government run clinic and wait for hours or days or even months for treatment.
Because the Government does not have to make a profit, while business' do. So the Government can drop their prices so that it is practically free, and everyone flocks to Gov't run Health Care. And when that happens, private health insurers lose customers. Lots of customers. So those companies go bankrupt as no one (or not enough people) wants to buy their healthcare. Leaving the Government with a monopoly on healthcare. Now, before you ask, we need those private companies simply because we need competition. One company needs to have a better, cheaper product than the other to stay alive. Like in evolution. So, with each company trying to be better than the other, and with healthcare technology costs going down, everyone will eventually get good, affordable healthcare that is constantly getting better. I cite my source for this in Eastern Europe during the Cold War. The Government owned everything, including Healthcare. If you would have gone to one of those countries, the waiting period for an operation (for example) was months. And even if you got to the top of the list, the quality of your care would be terrible by Western standards. Now, what gets me really scared is that if the Government can take over Health Care, what else can it do? It would be terrible if it took over the Media and Entertainment industries, for example. In those previously mentioned Communist countries, that happened. Soon, it was illegal to write or publish or say anything bad about the State. If you did, then the Police would knock on your door a midnight, and take you away, never to be seen again.
Because that's not how it's going to work. Do you know how they are going to pay for the government health care? Besides taxing us, taxing private health care, it's in the bill. Private insurance wont be able to stay in Business once that happens. Liberals are willing to destroy our countries health care system, and they will. From the letter that the Congressional Budget Office sent to Senator Edward Kennedy.. "The attached table summarizes our preliminary assessment of the proposal’s budgetary effects and its likely impact on insurance coverage. According to that assessment, enacting the proposal would result in a net increase in federal budget deficits of about $1.0 trillion over the 2010–2019 period. Once the proposal was fully implemented, about 39 million individuals would obtain coverage through the new insurance exchanges. At the same time, the number of people who had coverage through an employer would decline by about 15 million (or roughly 10 percent), and coverage from other sources would fall by about 8 million, so the net decrease in the number of people uninsured would be about 16 million." So basically, they will cut the number of uninsured, yes. However, they will also create more uninsured from loss of private or employer paid insurance. So once those numbers are taken into account, they only would have cut the number of uninsured by half. This would force the remaining people to either accept government health care or suffer without, that's fair right there. Because they can't cut there prices lower.. Do you people EVER..ever think that just maybe what they charge you is for reasons other then the fact they are "greedy companies"? The government plan will put private industry out of business and we will have single payer. That's the goal. But don't listen to any of us... Maybe when it happens you'll realize it.. Or maybe you'll just rename single payer to.. totally awesome health care for every American.. That's what you people do.. you rename things like calling card check "free choice act".
