What's wrong with conspiracy theories?
-
I became a libertarian because no other party supported my so-called "conspiracy theories". Almost no one trusts their government so I don't understand why more people arn't conspiracy theorists! Now i'm not one of those people who makes a conspiracy out of nothing. I only believe in conspiracy theories in which the alternative makes no logical sense. For example, jfk!

Answer:
Nothing is wrong with conspiracy theories or theorists. Conspiracy theorists provide an important public service of sending a clear message to the government that we are watching them. The day that something like 9/11 occurs without conspiracy theories, is the day the government is completely open about everything or it is the day that it realizes it can do anything it was without being questioned. Since there is no chance the government will ever be completely open about things, that day will be the day you can say good bye to your freedom. I personally love how right-wingers claim liberals love big government and are paranoid conspiracy theorists at the same time. Conspiracy theorists tend to be Libertarians... a type of conservative. You know, its the whole being paranoid of the government thing that leads to wanting smaller government. But only libertarians are consistent in this view, while other conservatives only want less help for the poor and bigger government in areas that could obviously be used to oppress people like military spending and spy organizations. Maybe that is why right-wingers think conspiracy theorists are all a bunch of liberals aye? Maybe they don't want small government like they claim. How is a small government going to restore traditional moral values, create trade agreements, police the world, prevent abortion, and protect right-wingers form homosexuals? I think people who worry about conspiracy theorists so much, tha they spend a lot of time trying to silence them, are actually fascist who seek that day when people are so complacent that they no longer question what the government is doing. And BTW nuclear activation analysis of the bullet fragments indicates more than one shooter and a possible conspiracy in the JFK assassination.

It seems to me that most conspiracy theorists start with a theory, and then look for evidence, ignoring everything that does not support their theory. Just because there is no adequate explication to explain every detail of an event does not mean the government of some secret organization is responsible. I do not always believe everything in official reports but it is more likely the are covering up embarrassing screw ups, or that they will not admit they do not know what happened, than that they are covering up a conspiracy.

Because stringing a bunch of stuff you saw on TV together until it makes sense to you, and then claiming it as the truth, is a great way to make sure that anyone at all interested in what actually happened, can't talk about it openly without being ridiculed and compared to conspiracy theorist. Every one person claiming as an ABSOLUTE FACT, for instance, that 9/11 was an inside job (whether or not it was) makes it impossible for 10 people to investigate the issue for themselves. Basically, conspiracy theories make journalistic integrity impossible to anyone that cares about their credibility. And pretty much the only reward journalistic integrity offers is credibility. In other words, youtube and myspace conspiracy theories are part of why we can't get decent news on TV that isn't Bill-O and Kieth-O calling eachother names.

There is absolutely no such thing as conspiracies. (and thats what they told me to say) Actually, you can spot a conspiracy as the MO is to mix in many ingredients that don't make any sense, as it will kill the taste of the entire meal.

There fun to talk about and some of them are entertaining but, I personally don't put alot into them. JFK is a good one, I also like the theory on the Death of President Harding you should look into it sometime it makes alot of since.
