I want to get mentaly and pysically fit for the US Army. What can I do?
-
Currently I am over weight, weak, and have terrible stamina and cannot do a single push-up. I have excessive body fat and weak health. I have horrendous dietary habits and poor health habits. I have poor self-esteem and always under estimate my abilities. When I do something wrong or what I consider stupid I generally beat myself up for it. I try to have courage but evade at the very sight of a bee. I have difficulty retaining a routine if no one is there to assist me. I have terrible social skills and am even diagnosed with Aspergur's disorder (a form of Autism, but different)! I also have a tendency to over analyze and cloud my mind with a whirlwind of positive and negative thoughts. I can't think fast especially in intense/fast situations and tend to get confused. Also in desperate times I tend to become desperate and lose hope. I have been in and out of depression. Physically what I do have... Mentally what I do have is a higher-than-average IQ, a powerful creative mind, curiosity, Loyalty, humility, temperance, self-control, chastity, an open mind, willingness to listen to opposing opinions, religious and fundamental morality, and perseverance. I also have the best friends (more like brothers) any one can ask for who are very supportive and caring. One in particular has cured my depression and kept my attitude at a stable positive state. I am also a powerful visionary and have a strong sense of justice and righteousness. I am at a severe lack of resources. I am a very adventurous person but my parents are not. We never travel or do much and are intense white-collar work-a-holics. I don't play sports and have no interest in sports. At school athletics are tooken more seriously than education and even if I did want to participate I would not be welcome. I have Wii Fit (woop-de-doo) and a BowFlex. The area I live in is the upper-class part of town and there are parks all over the place. I never have anything to work with or someone to learn from so I am entirely self-dependent. I am only a sophomore and have no income, allowance, or car to do anything. My parents are also very cynical of my abilities and will power. Are there any things that I can do to help me get fit enough for the US Army mental and physically or organizations and commercial companies that I can convince my parents to enlist me in? I have no deadline and besides school my schedule is normally blank. If someone can help me or give suggestions I would be very pleased and you will get answer points. I will thumbs-up your answer just for giving a suggestion.

Answer:
Have you been to a recruiter yet? This should be your first stop, and they will tell you everything you need to know to get ready. I would recommend walking and building up to jogging. Army basic training can be hell but it's rewarding and you learn a lot in a very short amount of time. Good luck.

Get thee to a recruiter! I know it probably sounds premature, since you're not in shape yet, but it's really the best first step you can take. A recruiter will have you come in weekly for weight/tape checks, and most have group workouts a couple times a week for future recruits where you can really get motivated. I don't attend the group workouts because I'm quite a bit older than the average recruit, and feel silly going, but just knowing that my recruiter is going to see my weight and my measurements each Friday provides the motivation I need to stay focused. It gets me on the treadmill or bicycle on days when I'd really rather just sit around. And watching my weight and measurements go down a tiny bit each week is great, knowing I'm getting closer to my goal. You'll want to find out if the Asperger's and depression are going to keep you out though; both are disqualifying conditions if the Army finds out. Depending on what kind of documented medical history you have regarding these conditions, you might not be able to hide it. There are sometimes waivers for these conditions, depending on how long ago it was, the severity, the symptoms etc. One ABSOLUTE rule is that you cannot have taken any medication for them within the last twelve months. And if your parents are cynical of your abilities and willpower, then do something to prove them wrong! Good luck to you.

the army will build up your self confidence and make you believe in your self. you can join the army at 17 with parents permission which is always an option. when you enlist they only feed you what you need and you loose weight like crazy. my husband was in ait and bct for 16 weeks total and came back 50 lbs lighter. you dont have to be the weight they want but you do have to make tape. meaning you have to be under 26% body fat percentage. you will loose your social anxiety issues immediatly after you live with you "brothers" in the barracks. the main thing they stress on is cardio. run, walk, swim... etc. work on push ups now or atleast stregthening your arms, same with sit ups. when my husband left he could only do 10 push ups and now he can do 200 without an issue. as for eating habits you gotta use common sence there and eat better. i can tell you for sure when you leave for basic you will be eating rice and chicken religously. the brownies and fries will not be an option.good luck to you. the military is a great thing for people to do who dont have a set path else where. and i can tell you from expirience that the first time you go somewhere in your uniform and have people randomly thanking you for serving your country and shaking your hand will be an eye opener for what you are doing. its a very respectable thing for just considering it. so best of luck!

The new military is after felons and non-american citizens. You can easily secure a job as part of the politicians hit squads sitting behind a computer controlling a drone of some sort. So long as your wrist has the strength to twitch a joystick and press a button, your all the warrior they need. If you REALLY want to get in the military fast, become a convicted felon, and rescind your citizenship. They will let you right in. I hope your health increases, your best bet is learning how to eat properly and gaining the will power all on your own - it will lead to the strongest mental state and dedication. Once you are healthy, you can find many better things to do than join the military. In the military you get sent on missions for politicians which result in destroyed lives and property of foreigners - this will NOT improve your mental state. Good luck, get healthy for yourself... If you do life will be all you ever wanted it to be. :) *You must not be that overweight, Wii Fit doesnt support over 300lbs (I own it).
