Can i file for unemployment?

Can I file for unemployment after active duty?

  • I just recently got back from active duty from the Army. I was told that I could file unemployment. I did so for 3 weeks now. I haven't received anything. I called them and they told me they could not give me anything because there is no base pay to tell me how much I can receive, but there is. It goes by rank. Also even though I was NOT in my home state they still took those taxes away. So after they took my money and I was away from home for 7 months, am I entitled to nothing? I'm not sure how this works or if its even fair but if someone can clear this up I'd appreciate it.

  • Answer:

you still pay the taxes of the state you're permanently living in. even if you were deployed to a warzone, you might have to pay them, depends on what state. you can't file for unemploment after coming off active duty orders because you weren't "laid off"...if the state does allow it as a reason, 7 months isn't long enough anyways

You may be entitled to unemployment but you said away for 7 months? What was the reason behind your discharge? If you were chaptered you may not be entitled. I suggest going to local unemployment office and ask to speak to the VET REP.

just find out where you local unemployment office is in your town and just walk in. Also if you have any medical issues please go by your local VA with you DD214 and file a claim, you may be entitle to medical and dental benefits from being deployed.
