What are green jobs?

Any idea on what jobs my husband can receive in the Air Force if he is color blind with light red and green?

  • Can he sign a waiver? what jobs can he get?

  • Answer:

My husband is color blind and has served in the Air Force for 20 years. Last time he checked there are about 3 jobs you can hold in the AF that you can be color blind. Believe it or not you can't even be a cook if you are color blind. My husband is a communications officer. Maybe the rules have changed but he has had a very successful career despite the color blindness. It's never been an issue.

Typically the Air Force won't accept anyone that is color blind. We consider it a safety thing. No waivers are available for this as far as I've seen.

He'll probably stuck in open admin since a majority of the AFSCs in this category don't require 'normal' color vision. Most likely will be stuck with a desk/office job like Personnel, Information Management or Paralegal.
