What should i do for jobs once I get out the navy?

What Navy jobs give me a higher chance to get stationed in Japan?

  • I have seen MANY questions like this, but I'm kind of getting annoyed at all the tip-toeing around the answer. I understand the needs of the military and all that, but how about which jobs have a higher chance to get stationed in Japan or Hawaii? Like a rate/job that would most likely have the individual sent there. There has to be some. I was thinking Japanese Linguist / Cryptologist, but then I read they might work CONUS. Any help would be great and please don't do the whole "needs of the Navy" thing. I understand that I just want to know if there are some that would give me a higher chance to be sent where I want. Thank you.

  • Answer:

NONE. no rating has any better or worse chance at being stationed OCONUS. any rating found in Yokosuka is ALSO found at Norfolk.. and san Diego. and Mayport. the few CTIs in Yoko are NOT JAPLINGS. and as for the rest of the CTx community.. the command is very small..smaller than it used to be ten years ago and is going through yet another restructuring. and any CTx on sea duty can just as easily be aboard the Enterprise as they can be aboard the GW.

Well, they 'tip-toe' because that is exactly how things are: the needs of the Navy. The Navy knows how many of what rate is going through, they know which rate goes where the best, they know where they want to send people. You go through school and depending on the school is if you have a dream sheet. You have to realize, the school you attend is the ONLY school for your rate, your graduation class is the newest of that rate. If you do really well then if you have that dream sheet they will go by what you put down. The Navy works by needing to place 'new' people where 'old' people retire or change duty stations. Could be the Navy doesn't need new people for a certain rate for a month to be sent to Japan, and when you graduate from that certain rate at that time you don't have the option for Japan. I'm sorry if it feels like I'm 'kiddifying' this for you but this is how the Navy works. Whatever spot is open they look for the most qualified to fill it. So doing the best in whatever rate you get, picking the right ship that is home ported in Japan, crossing your fingers and hoping for the best will get you Japan.
