How To Raise Asvab Score Fast?

ASVAB Score question?

  • I took the asvab for the second time and scored a 44, but for Navy because I was home schooled my last years of high school I have to score a 50. I'm wondering if I take the asvab again what if I score less than 50 again? which score will be used? If I can't score a 50 I'm going into the army so will my highest asvab score be the one that's valid?

  • Answer:

You will need to take it again. What you need to do is to take studying for the asvab as a "job". Create a study schedule for the test and actually go to a public library or somewhere other than your house. Either check out an asvab book from the library or purchase one in a book store. They are typically $25 to $30 and it would be a good investment. While you are studying, turn off your cell phone and remove yourself from as many distractions as you can. In addition, you might want to see if you can get a tutor for the math section. Taking a math course at a community college might help as well. You are close to getting the 50 but you want to score as high as you can so that you can get a job that you will like to do during your enlistment. Also, your homeschool diploma may also be considered tier 2 for the army and you may actually have to pick up 15 college level credits to make up for not having a traditional diploma. Going into the army with a low asvab score is bad because you will get a nasty job. Take the time and do it right because you will be stuck with a job that you do not like for the next couple of years. By the way, I believe that you may have to wait a couple of months to retake the test. Call your recruiter and see what he has to say.

Your latest score counts and you can take it once a year.

The latest score is the one that counts.

It is your last score that counts. There are also ways once you are in, to improve your overall scores too. I took the ASVAB twice myself. 87 for the first and 91 for the second. Take a look at which section has the lowest line scores and work from there to build a study plan. You have to wait a year to retake it but if you are impatient, once in there are classes to boost the scores derrived from the ASVAB. To follow up, if your diploma is considered "tier 2" the army will send you to GED school... and pay for it. You do not need to pick up college credits unlike the 20 for the airforce, 15 for navy and marine corps. Tier 2 is another name for unaccredited. My brother's actual diploma was tier 2 and was told he needed to enroll in courses to maintain his enlistment.

From the way you are talking you are concerned about the AFQT score in the ASVAB; the two general ones are AFQT and GT with the rest being technical areas for job selection and are actually scored slightly different by service. You can take the ASVAB as many times as you like but the last test score is what counts, there is a waiting period depending on service for retaking also so watch that. I forget the portions of the test that are used to compute AFQT but only certain sections apply to that score and I know that verbal skills and general math are two of them but others apply also, buy a book on it (study guide) and it will let you know the sections you need to be better at and then concentrate on those areas. Pattern Analysis is usually one that gives people problems and it is actually because they "over-think" it so pay attention to the tips on that if it is part of the composite that makes up AFQT. Good luck on it and the key is to study what you need hard and to stay calm and not worry when taking the test.
