USMC OFFICER AND NROTC PROGRAM?
-
I am planning on joining the USMC however im not that educated on the NROTC program as I would like to become an officer. Can you take the classes online? Also if i were to become an infantry officer would I actually be in combat? I want to fight however most people tell me officers are desk jockies and do paperwork all day. I wouldnt mind that because I would be glad to just become an officer but I would also like to get a taste of what combat would be like instead of sending good enlisted men in not knowing what its like.

Answer:
To be in ROTC you must be a fill time student...for starters. Two..who do you think plans, resources and leads those combat missions? Officers...specifically Lieutenants and Captains...do you think we just send a bunch of 18 and 19 years out there to run around like little monkey children with no leadership?

Any ROTC program is an elective you take while attending college Full-Time, (not online). Depending on how many years of college you have left, you will take ROTC for 2-4 years. The program will train you to lead as an officer. Each ROTC program runs a little different than the others, but for the most part you will have class 2-3 times per week, with PT and Labs mixed. For Naval ROTC-Marine Option, you will do a lot of PT, and training in the field. During the summers you may be able to attend summer training aboard Navy vessels. Only scholarship midshipmen, and upper-class midshipmen go on these summer training sessions. Summer after Junior year of college, you will go to Bulldog, a shortened version of Marine OCS. After graduating college and commissioning as a Marine Officer, you will go to The Basic School (TBS) for further Officer training. During TBS you will be assigned your job based on your performance, and after TBS you will begin your career as an Officer.
