Question about the Paramedic career?

Choosing Military Career Path: Quick Question?

  • I'm 33, have a bachelor's degree, a background in teaching and coaching, an interest in marketing and I'm considering going into the military. I scored 99 percentile on the ASVAB. Potentially limiting factor: very bad credit. I want to choose the right career path for me, but both the Army and Navy recruiter are telling me that the next step is to do MEPS, and after that I'll be told what options would be available to me and I can sign up then and there to choose a role that is available, that I qualify for, and enlist. The thing is, I don't want to rush any career decision before enlisting. I want to think about and research my options once I know exactly what they are. The question is, how do I know if I want to do Army or Navy when neither is telling me what options I'll have until it's already time to enlist? Another question is, what career options are most likely to be up my alley in either? I would LOVE to do a language job.

  • Answer:

What options are you talking about ? You know your asvab scores - if you know your line scores, then go research the different jobs you qualify for. http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/u/joining_up.htm Will link you to every enlisted job and the required asvab line scores 2. Decide what job you want, go to MEPS, and see if you can actually enlist and choose the job you want, if it is available. 3. Until you go to MEPS - nothing can happen. 4. You do not actually have to enlist at MEPS - its your choice

first of all if youy have a bachelors then you should consider being an officer. secondly the recruiters arent lying to you. you go through MEPS and once completed they look at your medical exams and the ASVAB and then they look at what jobs are available. there are plenty of sources to look up the different jobs in either the Army or the Navy. once you get to the job selection process of MEPS you NEED TO HAVE A JOB PICKED OUT. and under no circumstances settle for a different job because they will try and tell you that you can do both things, etc. good luck and i look forward to serving with you! feel free to ask anything else that youd like to know.
