Is commercial pilot training a good option?

Becoming a US Air Force pilot?

  • I am currently about to go through my second semester(fall) in college but I now realize that I would like to pursue a career in the Air Force.I will turn 20 in December and I wanted to join once I finish up the fall semester. I would like to become a fighter pilot or at least a pilot in the Air Force in general. [Brief back story to help some full understand]: My step has re-enlisted in the army and we are all awaiting to find out where he will be stationed. I have to remain a full time student if I want to leave with them so not attending school this semester and just flat out joining is not really an option for me. I've started up a new diet and workout routine, I'm fully aware of how hard they will be on me. I've read nearly every bit of information I can on the topic but I would just like to hear from personal experiences. I also know that I wont be able to become a pilot if I'm already 28 or over. I have 20/20 vision. Here's what I want to know: How difficult will it be to acquire my bachelors degree while on active duty? What would the process actually consist of? For instants:When I jump into Basic Training after those 8 1/2 weeks I'll head on over to the Advanced Training(I think that's what they call it), I know that could take from 4 weeks to even 7 months. Once I'm through with that I go on to putting all I've learned to work. So for about the next 3 years I'll be putting all of my acquired training to good use. That's as far as I know for what really happens. Would I be able to begin earning my bachelors during those 3 years? How long would it take to earn my bachelors if I was able to start then? After I earn my bachelors, how long will it take to got through Officer Training? Even after going through all of that, completing my officer's training and all, Is there a certain age that they stop letting you be a pilot? Would it be worth it? I'm mainly looking for people with personal experiences in this situation to answer but as always anything would be much approved. Also! Those of you who are in the Air Force or have been in the Air Force Share your experience please, I would also need help deciding on what job I'd like to go for. Especially the females that were/are in the Air Force. Tell me your stories! Please and Thank You

I believe it would be best if you get your degree prior to going into the service. You are going to be busy to the point that you wont even want to finish your degree on top of the fact you may not find a school that will transfer your credits. Being a pilot is a goal nd a good one at that, but try to keep your vision wide when it comes to the military. Things don't always go down the way you want or the way your told it's gonna go down. There is a lot of training, paperwork, paperwork, oh yeah and paperwork. Be prepared to write a novel just to get in a cockpit. Be sure you are going to school for something that deals with flying in some manner as well. All the luck to you.
