How old do you have to be to get married in germany?

Help! My fiance' is in Germany and we want to get married.?

  • Alright here's the situation. My fiance' is currently stationed in germany til Aug 2011. He is coming home on leave in 2 weeks and we plan to get married then. Other then his leave form is there any other paper work he needs to do so that we can get married when he comes home? Next question, after he goes back from leave how do you go about the command sponsorship paperwork to get me over there to live with him? Do i need a passport? How do i get my belongings over there? Do i pay for my plane ticket? I need as much detail as i can about this please we are in the dark about everything and hisSgts over there aren't too keen on helping anyone over there do anything. thank you so much!!

  • Answer:

as far as paperwork after you are married, all he needs to do is re-file his DEERS forms. that will change everything in the system for being newly married. Once that is filed out and turned in, you and any other dependents will need to go get military ID's. youll be covered under full coverage insurance with those ID's. he will make more in separation pay also while he is deployed once you are married. I only know for sure about the Air Force, but my impression is it's fairly similar for all branches. PFC Simko was correct about DEERS and getting IDS. When he gets back to his base he can get paperwork started on getting BAH with dependent pay. You will need a Passport. You ship your belongings out of pocket and you pay for he plane ticket. The Air Force has a dislocation allowance, which goes up with dependents and also by rank, which is meant to cover some of the cost of moving a spouse. It's a one time thing. That should cover a good amount of what it costs to move, but as far as I know, you don't get it beforehand, so have enough money saved up. I would make sure to save receipts though, just in case. Good Luck.

When you get married he needs to take your marriage certificate, birth certificate and SSN card to the closest base or Reserve/National Guard center to you. Then your information can be entered into DEERS and you get a military ID Card and enrolled into Tricare Standard medical coverage. For Standard you go to an approved civilian provider with a yearly deductible and co-pay for each visit. You can change to Prime if you wish but you do have to file the necessary paperwork for that and it doesn't start immediately. he will also have to file the paperwork to set up United Concordia dental where you go to a civilian dentist twice a year for free cleanings, then up to 80% coverage on work done. As he is overseas, you are considered an acquired dependent so therefore all costs will be yours to pay out of pocket. The military will not pay for your plane ticket, the shipment of your goods, and he will not receive Dislocation allowance (DLA) as someone else stated because this isn't a PCS move which is when DLA Is only paid out. You can though declare it on your taxes. now to get command sponsorship he may have to extend his time there depending on his branch of service. Some can require he extends up to 2 more years, while others will not. You will have to undergo a EFMP screening which is a medical and dental screening to make sure you do not have anything they cannot handle there. This includes a pap smear done within the past 6 months. Once that is granted you can file for a No Fee Government Passport to fly there, but you will also need your Tourist Passport if you want to travel outside of Germany while there. This process can take months to go through and has to be approved by the command he is with. If you stay behind he will get BAH (housing allowance) based on your location. he would not get Family Separation unless he deploys from Germany as you again are an acquired dependent after his first orders.
