Am I eligible for the GI Bill?

I just got out of Marines bootcamp, Am I eligible for the GI bill?

  • I am a third year college student. I just got out of the bootcamp and I am going back to college. My goal is to get the bachelor degree and going for officer candidate school. I'm really concern about the GI bill, some people said I'm eligible for that because I have not serve an active duty for 90 days yet. I'm doing the 92 days reservist. My recruiter hasn't response back to me since i left for bootcamp. Can you help me???

  • Answer:

No you are not. Ask about TA.

Nope, you have to have 90 days of active duty to qualify for 40% benefits. But Boot,AIT, monthly drill and annual training, do NOT count toward that 90 days. IE: just reserve duty doesn't count, you have to be called to active duty for ( other than training ) and serve 90 days, before you earn any benefits. Your recruiter, isn't going to answer your questions anymore. He is not your boss, you are already in the reserves. You have to go thru your Reserve Chain of Command , now.

TA (tuition assistance) would be your best bet, but if you fail a class you will have to pay for it out of your pocket. you can get the GI Bill when you get out.

You are not eligible for the GI bill until you have made the $100 monthly payments for one year. Try Tuition Assistance.

Don't count on anything from your recruiter. He got what he wanted.
