What is it like to be a Surgical Tech?

What is tech school going to be like for my boyfriend at Keesler AFB?

  • He is leaving for basic this fall, and then taking ATC tech school. How long is it? I heard there are phases where he will be able to leave the base. I plan on visiting him. I also want to know, what is the "guy attitude" like, will he get a hard time because he has a girlfriend, I'm sure he will go out with the other guys in his flight school when they are allowed to leave the base. Will it be "hook up" with girls time or will they leave him along because he has a girlfriend? Will they in courage him to be unfaithful? I know it's all about trust, but he's going to be in a different setting there. I also know that it's a very intense tech school and he's got a lot of studying too. I'll be a freshman at a local university here, so I'll be studying a lot too. He's 20 and I'm 18 and we've been going out for 2 years. When he gets his first base, he wants me to transfer to a university close by, which I want to do. We talk about the future, but we aren't rushing out to get engaged just because he's leaving for basic. I really want this to work out through all the changes that will be coming. I just want to know what I'm up against. Staying faithful and supportive of him will be easy!

    It will work out. Tech School is like college. I wouldn't plan on transferring to a college near his first base. Finish your education. Transferring can make it difficult for you. You might not get credit for ALL the courses you have already taken. You don't know where his first assignment will be. It might be overseas. It might be for a year or less. You can't keep changing schools, to be near him.

The mind set of alot of kids in basic are still immature high schoolers, atleast until the instructors turn them into service members. After he is done with basic, I'm sure he will be much more mature and will be faithful. The military is all about honor and integrity, and it will be drilled into his head. His buddies may joke about it, but they will understand that he has a girlfriend and will be faithful. Trush in him and in the Air Force, and everything will be fine. I'm sure the tech school will be very intresting and further intensify his military training. I've been do Keesler a few times, it is a nice base. He should be very happy

ATC is a LOOONG one. not sure how long, but i had a friend (we both arrived at the same time) and my tech school was 4 months. when i left she was still there. anyway. yes the paper has reports on "sex on the golf course!" "sex in the post office!" and yes there are off base hotels where sex also occours but i would trust him. not everyone is as bad as the newspaper reports.
