The life of a RAD Tech?

What should I bring when I get deployed to Balad Iraq as a Rad Tech?

  • The last time I deployed was to Panama in 89 while I was Infantry. Now I'm a Rad Tech and would Like to know what I should bring with me as far as enertainment and things to help me do my job in the Radiology Department?

  • Answer:

we make constant trips to jbb. trust me you will like it and they have everything you will need there. just have a kuwait style adapter and 240 to 110 step down inverter for you 110 gizmos no booze no drugs. you will get a list of things you cant bring. you will have plenty of down time. you can buy internet for in your chu.. you will have it made down there. but try to keep your bags light and keep the majority of your stuff in a tough box or something that will be shipped to you either the company or mail. you dont want to be getting on all the flights with all your bags.. you bring it and you will count on lugging it around.

I'm not really sure what you ought to bring, but thank you for serving our country

Well you will be working in a clinic and there might not always be work to do as a rad tech, we had two and they worked 12 on and then 12 off. And we were not allowed to put them in any duties other than their job considering they were the only ones that could X ray from Kuwait up to the green zone. They read a lot, but books you can get there at the USO. Buy movies and have plenty of porn. Balad is huge so you will have internet access for a price out of the gate have a way to call home or IM chat online, so bring a computer. There is no reason to bring illegal items into Iraq. If you do get caught then your *** is grass, so be careful. An external hard drive full of porn should hold you off for a year. If you like certain items as far as soap, shampoo, anything that you use in the latrine buy it now and send it in your foot locker or have someone mail it once you get your addy. Also it is easier to get stuff into Iraq than to get it out, and a lot of people leaving sell their stuff to the incoming soldiers (TV, fridges stuff like that). Good Luck

TV shows are great since they last so long. Workout clothes in addition. portable gaming systems aren't bad as well. Books if you like to read.
