Radiologic Technologist?

Joining the airforce as a radiologic technologist?

  • i graduate a radiology program in 7 weeks. i will be a radiologic technologist after i take my boards soon after graduation. I was wondering where this could take in the air force and if any branch of the military needs xray people? just give me some insight as to what is out there. thanks

  • Answer:

It will not do anything for you in the Air Force. You would still have to make a qualifying MAGE score and hope you are assigned that AFSC. There are no guarentees. 2. But in the Army, in the civilian aquired skill program, you could actually enlist with advanced enlistment rank, after passing your Boards.

Actually, you're ahead of what being a rad tech in the military would do for you. The military teaches you everything you need to know about being a rad tech (in the Army it's called AIT - Advanced Individualized Training). After AIT and you go to your duty station, you can sign up to take all the national rad tech registry tests, on the military's dime. After that, you can branch out and learn ultrasound and mammography, all courtesy the military. You already having your registry would make AIT a breeze for you, but it wouldn't necessarily help you in any way. It wouldn't help you get any extra rank or anything like that.
