What's the process of becoming a pilot?

Whats the probability I will become an Air Force pilot?

  • im 16, dreaming of becoming an AF jet pilot, and I'm curious about the probability of becoming a pilot. my eye sight is 20/20, and i never look at bright lights, and wear glasses to protect my vision. So anyone know the probability of me becoming an AF pilot? and am i doing a good job with my eyes?

  • Answer:

You will need a college education, preferably ROTC, excellent grades, exemplary behavior, no legal problems, good credit, good moral character, be able to obtain security clearance, excellent health with no mental or physical issues, etc. If this is your goal, you can achieve it with dedication and hard work. Try to find a mentor in your local JROTC program. It is admirable that this is your goad. My Brother in law if a pilot in the AF, but chose to fly the KC-135R (refuelers). It was a great choice for his as he has excelled in his career and made full colonel by 42. It also means a lot of sacrifice by your family. It isn't a job for just anyone.

If you think the only thing you need to worry about is your eyes, then your chances are probably next to none.

You should try to get your pilots license when you can. Study up on what it takes to make the cut. Reach out to a military recruiter now to make friends and to gain important information and insight. Join JROTC or ROTC if it is available at your school. Graduate from college. Getting to become a pilot is tough. Only people who don't quit and have the skills and temperament demanded for the job have a chance. Good luck.

excellent grades good fitness get into the airforce academy and you will have a shot at it

Your chances are better if you go navy jet pilot.

What does your GPA look like? What kind of leadership positions do you hold/have held? (I'm talking about class president, treasurer, team captain, co-captain. Please google the Air Force Academy and AFROTC. You want to get on scholarship if at all possible...the less time you are working, worrying about bills, the more time you have to study. Your GPA is a huge factor in being selected for pilot. Pick a major you like. Tech majors do not have any priority- that's an urban legend. Also, have a look at wantscheck.com; my pilot wantabes use that religiously.

Make sure you have your 4-year Bachelors' Degree from an accredited college, pass the flight physical, and go to OTS and become an officer. Then I would say you probability would be QUITE high.
