Can I be a LVN after I get my EMT?

What emt level do corpsman get trained at?

  • emt-b emt-i emt-p i have emt-b, but i'm kind of confused as to what kind of level do they get trained at also, can i get either emt-i or emt-p training inside the navy( with the exception of going through the army's socom medic course)? how can i get a corpsman rate in the navy that allows me to ride/drive the ambulances?

  • Answer:

Basic. and even then it is up to the state whether or not they will let you take the exam/become certified. anything further than that is on your own time and dime. the ambulances on base are driven by CIVILIANS.. HMs do not routinely rid e in them unless duing major excercises/responses to actuyal emergencies.

EMT-B You can take class's in your off duty time, to earn your EMT-P Im not sure what level, a independent duty corpsmen is trained to, but it is far above a EMT-B

When you finish Naval Hospital Corps School you will not be registered at any level of EMS professional. Though much of the course is taught from the Brady Book you don't complete the entire curriculum. If you are assigned to an overseas Naval hospital you will have to attend EMT-B (which you've already done) or attend it as soon as you arrive. There are personnel (HMs) assigned to EMS squads at overseas hospitals, but there are none left in the US. Those are all civilian employees now. None of the Naval Hospitals teaches EMT-I, or EMT-P. When you hear about things like "equivalent training" it's just that. When somebody says a SAR Corpsman is trained to the standard of an EMT-I they're really saying that they're not EMT-I. Only Independent Duty Corpsman have the same knowledge base as EMT-P, since they are the only ones that learn the full spectrum of cardiac arrhythmia and treatments. Since EMS is a strictly regulated career field (as I'm sure you realize after taking your course) you have to be taught at a registered training site, and follow all of the NHTSA requirements.
