How much sit-ups should i do?

How many pushups, situps, pullups, and 3 mile run time should I be able to do before leaving for MCRD?

  • I am going to enlist in the Marine Corps within the next month as either Infantry or Firefighter. Right now my run time is at about 25:30 for three miles, situps are at about 80 in 2 minutes (do Marines do situps or crunches? what's the difference?), I can do about 20 pushups in 2 minutes (that's up from 0 a month ago...so it's climbing slowly but surely), and I am at 0 pullups right now (once again, I will get there with time...) I just want to have clear cut goals before I leave for Boot Camp. My brother said the more in shape you go the 'easier' it will be, but that it will be hard no matter what...especially School of Infantry. I'd ask him for help but he's in A-stan so I need your help please...

  • Answer:

first push ups mean nothing in the marine corps. you ll do push ups all day in boot camp and they wont count for anything. now if you don't want to be messed with in boot camp ideally you'd like to have 10 or at least close to that. sit ups should be a breeze, your recruiter should be PTing with you and he should show you how to do a proper USMC sit up. i wouldn't worry about that. at the beginning of boot camp you wont have to run a 3 mile right off the bat. the only 3 mile that counts in boot camp is the last one and by they you ll be in the best shape of your life. in the first couple days they will make you run a 1.5 mile. this should be done in under 12 mins. but perfection would be around 9 mins. you can look up the USMC PFT requirements online. you should set your goals for perfection. for pull ups. hit the gym, lateral pull down machine. do it till you wanna die. once you can do one or two pull ups do them weighted. sit up a bar at home and try to do a pull up every thirty mins.

you have to be able to do at least 2 pull ups before you can even ship work on that first EDIT) You are wrong, to ship to boot camp the minimum is 2 pull ups, but to graduate boot camp it is 3. I under stand you don't want to go doing the minimum, but that is a whole of a lot better then not doing the minimum. At your current stats you could not even ship, keeping working hard tho. You can do it
