Where is the best station to PCS in Italy?

Can a 1st term Marine request to PCS to another duty station during his 1st contract?

  • I am a LCpl. My EAS is Oct 30, 2011. I have been 2 yrs at my present duty station and am requesting to extend my contract in order to have 2 yrs out and be able to transfer to another duty station closer to home. I have some family issues that need me to be clsoe home, so that is why i am requesting to transfer. Can this be done? and if so, is it difficult?

  • Answer:

You can "request" anything at any time....whether it is granted or not is another matter. Talk to your command Chaplain about the issues.

yes. weather or not it is approved is another story. you can also "trad" duty stations with people from your MOS. but that doesn't happen much unless you are a camp pen. Marine trying to trad with a 29palms Marine.

it can be done but only if they have a need for you over there

You can see if your platoon leader or company CO can email your MOS monitor and check on vacancies. Requesting a particular duty station doesn't usually work though unless you make it part of a re-enlistment incentive.

You can always request a PCS But generally, unless your going overseas, you will not pcs until you reenlist. You can reenlist early, which would serve the same purpose as extending for 2 years And then request BOP for the reenlistment.

It's called a humanitarian transfer. One of my Marines applied for it and got it. His mother had cancer though, and he needed to be there to help her, so I don't know how severe your family's need has to be to get it approved. If your family needs you enough, run the request up your chain.
