How fast can i ship out for navy boot camp after meps?

  • I am joining the navy and I go to meps next week. I want to know how fast I could ship out after going. I got a 77 on my asvab, what can I do to ship out faster? I have read about going in open contract? I was thinking of taking the job with the fastest ship date and changing jobs down the line for something id rather do, only if necessary of course. I have a wife and son, and I want to get to providing for them asap, so what can I do to ensure I ship out fastest and how long can I expect to wait? Are there certain jobs in higher demand and will picking one help my chances?

    Do not expect to change jobs, down the line. It is next to impossible to do that. I wouldn't go open contract either (you want to work in the boiler room on the SS Turdsandwich?). To get shipped faster pick an MOS that needs people. Such as intel. Simply ask your recuriter what the hot fills are.

average no matter what rating is 6-9 months currently. you WILL NOT be allowed to just 'switch out' later on. If you go Undesignated/PACT you will only be allowed to strike for a rating with your COs approval and he can tell you know to one rating and yes to another. or, if you do nothing, you default automatically to BM. also you still must meet that ratings ASVAB line score and other requirements( normal color vision, eligibility for a clearance, etc)

This is something only your recruiter can answer.. However i have a friend who shipped out to basic three weeks after going to meps!
