Getting stationed in South Korea, sending back wholesale products?

  • I am in the Army and will soon be sent to South Korea for duty (first duty station). Well, my fiancee and myself were eBay sellers long before I joined the military. I've heard stories about eBay sellers actually going to places in Korea where products are manufactured and getting crazy cheap deals on products. Naturally, I'm thinking of doing the same, but how would I do this? Does the Army provide Shipping Agents, or do they point you in the right direction to one that wont rip me off? Then I'm guessing I would tell the product manufacturers to drop the items off at a shipyard then my products will be shipped in a shipping container to CA (which is where my fiancee lives) and then we just list our stuff on eBay? How should I go about doing this? How could I contact someone in Korea that would sell me products at a really cheap price?

  • Answer:

A lot of the stuff made in Korea near military bases is counterfeit; ie Coach bags. We call them Osan Coach. Good way to end your miitary career before it gets started. You are going so busy doing your Army job, you won't have time to run a business out of your barracks room.

Forget it. You aren't going to have time to operate a business over there.

You may not use your military address as a business address. Nor can you run a business out of gov't quarters. Both are illegal and both can get you kicked out. The Army will NOT provide you with a shipping agent. If you plan to run a business on the side, then it is up to you to get that dealt with.

wow hold on high speed. You'll get schooled on this when you get in country but basically you CANNOT use the military postal service for business purposes. Also customs limits what you can send back. And since a majority of the crap over there is counterfeit your going to get into a whole heap of trouble trying to bootleg stuff.

Well I've had several battles that got stationed over there and, from what I've heard, it sucks. I did hear about this idea in another country though. I'd suggest you buy the product you plan on selling in bulk, ship it to your finacee in the states and then have her sell it from there.
