Answer:
I guess it depends on what you want to do with your life, and what kind of an offer the military can make for you. I don't know a lot about it, but I do have an anecdote to share. I have a very good friend who is a physician - he's a respected specialist who has been in practice about 25 years. When he wanted to go to med school and was looking at tuition of over $100,000, he joined the Navy and accepted a deferred enlistment. They paid for his med school in exchange for his Navy service - one year of school for one year of service. When he entered the service, he immediately went into OCS and became an officer. He had a free education, a higher salary, and a commission in the military. He only stayed in for the minimum amount he had to, but had he chosen to make a career out of it he would have had a great start.

ok there's two answers based on if your a junior in high school or a junior in college so I'll lay it out for you. By the way I'm not putting you down I'm just assuming you are unfamiliar with the subject. Junior in high school: Perfect time to start applying for ROTC scholarships. ROTC is the Reserve Officer Training Corps in which you do throughout college. Upon graduation you would commission as a 2LT. With ROTC you can get more of a college experience while having military training etc. It is a great program and one that I applied to as well (hs senior, also applied to usma and usmma) On a side note: since it looks like you want to get college out of the way first, *OCS may be the perfect opportunity for you. With a college degree you can commission as an officer, which I would recommend rather than enlisting with a college degree. Junior in College: Graduate, go through OCS (Officer Candidate School) *OCS is an officer training program where one would go with a college degree looking to pursue a career as an officer. The bottom line is if you want to become an officer they either go through ROTC, an Academy, or OCS. I would recommend doing some research and seeing what you think is right for you. Best of luck!
