Is the economy going to improve after we get out of iraq/afghanistan?

    During the "Great Wars", the economy was very much connected to the war effort. Now it is hardly tied to it at all. The benefit to ending the wars would only be the return to the treasury of the costs of the wars. And the only positive impact resulting from that would be if our politicians didn't waste it on other projects rather than using it to balance the budget. An economist will also point out that this additional money could be used to create jobs rather than paying down the debts. There are good arguments for and against this and you can take your pick on where you fall in that political debate. Russia is a large country and like any country they are best served by a stable world market in which to sell goods and receive oil. They also have a great interest in Afghanistan as all of their heroin comes from there. A stable government is able to stop the heroin trafficking.

No i don't think our economy will be any better once we pull out and discharge our troopers only to send them home to an unemployment check. there is too much talk about cutting our Federal Gov'ment workers. 2-3 million was the last number I heard of Civilians and military combined Do you really think that'll help our economy when unemployment goes up a few points

It will help the national debt but unless that freed up money is put into American jobs it will hurt the economy since it will get rid of a lot of jobs

The economy has almost nothing to with either war. Unlike say WW2, we have no shortages, rationing, conversion of civilian plants to defense or any draft. Oil prices have not been affected either. The problem with the economy is still the housing market & loan defaults & 125 bank failures just last year. Folks can't sell houses to move to new jobs & new orders not moving quickly. States have heavy debt from Unemployment pay outs & union pension plans. So. no it would not improve much at all. In fact We will be reducing the size of the Army & USMC by several thousand people.

No No - quite the opposite ... First, there will be many soldiers/sailors/airmen getting out of the service fairly quickly when they return home. Many won't have jobs. Unemployment will rise. Also, all the folks involved in, and working for, the makers of all the "beans and bullets" will find themselves out of a job, when the demand for their products ceases. Additionally, all the money the military was paying to civilians for contractor services will stop, causing those companies to have to lay off people. The list goes on and on. The effect will be quite dramatic, and will be felt in most areas of the nation's economy in one way or another. Most certainly, the effect on the economy will be a negative one.

The Bottom Line

saving 500 billion a year will definitely not hurt our economy. we need to get out of the sandbox. also we have 22,500 troops in south korea. america rarely leaves a country once we are in it.
