Can I get a medical transcription job without the official training?

Is it illegal to not get paid for job training?

  • I just started a job at an icecream shop. my boss is not paying me for training. it is a minimum wage job and i am eighteen years old. is this illegal to do? i feel like he's gonna call every day at work 'training' so he doesnt have to pay me. oh, by the way this is in NJ. this has gone on for 3 days now. the first day wasnt even training....all i did was take cups out of a bag. i think hes just looking for someone to do free labor for him. cause he said soon hes gonna fire people...like after a month. is this illegal?

  • Answer:

Well if you are punching a time clock, you might go to your states department of labor website, and look up, just how many days he can label "training" before he gets in trouble. You have a legitimate complaint as long as you are 18 years or older. ooops in some states you just have to be over 16. Your department of labor will have your answers.

They do not have to pay you, try working for Vector Marketing (Cutco) I had 14 hours of unpaid training over the course of 4 days and then 1 3 hour long meeting a week. Must be legal, they've been doing it since 1897.

If it's an apprenticeship and you've signed a contract to confirm this then it's legal. If not your basically a slave and have rights to claim payment for your work.

no, trainibn doesn't count in work pay see chapter 7 arcticle 5 of the pay discrimination act

Nope this is perfectly legal! Ive never had a job actually pay me for training and yes depending on how quickly you pick up on things you might end up training for a month! ive done it before and it sucks but you have to live with it! if you think about it, it wouldnt be fare for the employer to have to pay you to just stand there an not know anything, thats why they pay you after you are trained and can actually help out and work for the minimum wage.

It is legal. Don't like it, complain to your employer. It's your problem if you are doing jobs for free.
