What would you do if you catch an employee stealing?

What actions can I take against an employee who has been stealing thousands of dollars from me?

  • I hired an employee as an bookeeper. She was working for me for over a year and within the past few days, I realized she has been stealing thousands of dollars from our bank account and credit card the past 6 months. I lost about $20,000. She is right now on vacation till Tuesday (on my dime) and she doesnt know I found out. What are my options? What do I do? Legal action? Criminal Action? Civil action? Please help

  • Answer:

You can take both criminal and civil action against her. I'd call the police and show them your proof and then go ahead and sue her in court to recoup your money. Since it's such a large amount of money you really should hire a lawyer for the lawsuit. Make sure that you consult with several lawyers to find one that is competent and that you trust. Some lawyers do free or cheap consultations.

Call the cops-now. Maybe they can greet her at the airport when she gets back.

You call the police. They will review your " proof" and charge her. This won't help you get your money back which is why folks also personally sue someone like that. Start with the police. Have all your ducks lined up - proof with paper work.

Call the police and have her arrested.

First thing you do is sell your business to someone with enough intelligence to know they should call the police when they have knowledge of a crime committed against them. Effing DUH
