How does a trademark work?

If you own a domain name before it gets trademark how does that work?

  • I have a question, what if somone own the name ivy blue or ivy blue carter.com etc and now that JZ AND BEYONCE IS filing a trademark rights to the name, will that person or persons have to give up thier domain legally? what if itwas register before they acxtually file the trademark? I am just wondering how that works

  • Answer:

If you own a domain name, you own it until you sell it or stop paying for it. If someone trademarks your domain name, it is still yours and they can possibly be sued for copyright infringement or something along those lines. When the internet was first becoming popular, many smart techies bought domain names like cocacola.com and apple.com so when these companies decided to go online, they had to purchases the domain names from the original owners. It was all legal.
