Can I be fired from corporate without notice?

I got fired for no reason even though i gave my two week notice, is there anything i can do?

  • ok so im moving states .. from california to texas.. and i thought it would be ok to give my two week notice to my employer, but today i go in and they tell me that i can no longer work here, and that im basically fired... and i find it unfair that i was fired before the date i was going to leave because i had specifically told them the day that was going to be my last, is there anything that i can do about this? ..

  • Answer:

California is an at-will state. They are not required to have any reason to fire you. Due to the fact you gave them two weeks, they do not have to honor the two weeks notice and can make the decision immediate or days later if they so choose. Moving on is the only thing you can do about it.

You seem to be asking if you can quit for personal reasons but the employer cannot fire you. Sorry but unless you have a contract that binds both of you for a specific period of time, then either party can terminate the relationship at any time.

"At will' employment means they can fire you for any reason as long as it doesn't violate existing law. You gave notice and stated what your last day would be and this means you were still an employee until that day. They have the right to fire you before that day arrives. Now, when it comes to unemployment compensation that is a different story. For them to keep from paying unemployment they will need to show cause for firing you and your notice is not cause. So, if you want to go through the hassle you can file for unemployment and may get it.

file for unemployment, in CA. (check the california gov website, you can file on-line) they terminated you without cause. had they allowed you to quit two weeks later, it would have been a voluntary quit and you would not be eligible for unemployment. if you don't have a job lined up in TX, they've done you a really big favor.

not quite right. You resigned. You asked to stay 2 more weeks. They decided they did not wish to have such a worker on site. common. move on. happens every day

Probably not. They should have at least paid your wages until your departure time but that is up to the employer. One of the risks of being a good person and giving notice. Especially if you work for a slimeball.

Fired without cause is a basis for unemployment compensation. By getting fired you can collect until you start a new job. So file a claim! But don't say you were going to quit. Also if it makes you feel any better, your ex-employer will take a hit on their contribution to the unemployment fund.
