Laid off from 1 job, then discharged from another. Will I still be eligible for Unemployment Benefits in Ohio?
-
To begin with this is all in the state of Ohio. I worked full time for one company from 9/2000 to 2/28/2009. I was laid off and eligible at that time for unemployment benefits. I did not apply for benefits however because I immediately found employment. I began the new job 3/1/2009. Then I was discharged on 7/9/2009 and given the reason "its just not working out". I had worked hard and did everything I was asked to do and I was also under the impression that the management was satisfied with my performance. I never received any warnings about my work performance and can only conclude that the company could not afford my salary. I had been told by owner that the company was losing money and that my salary was too high (?) Anyways, I am worried about whether I will still be eligible to receive unemployment. I have already applied and just awaiting determination and also aggressively seeking new employment. If I had not taken the 2nd job and had not found other work then I would still be receiving unemployment benefits for the 1st job. Answers from experienced and/or experts greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Answer:
You are normally eligible for unemployment is you have meet the hours requirement and lost your job for most any cause that is not misconduct. "it just is not working out" is not misconduct. You should be okay.
