How to attach my photo to my ID?

Do I need a state photo ID if I already have a drivers liscense?

  • I am going to Penndott to take my driving test and I was wondering if I get my liscense, whats going to happen to my photo ID I already have? Would I need to have both? A state ID and a drivers liscense? Or just one or the other? What if I already have a liscense and a photo ID both? Which one should I use? Now lets put this in reverse here. lets say my liscense does get revoked for any reason, is that when I would need a photo ID? Does a drivers liscense still count as a photo id? If I only need a drivers liscense, what should i do with my old photo ID I already have? If the photo ID expires and if I have a drivers liscense, I wouldnt have to renew my photo ID as well and I wont need both?

  • Answer:

Hang on to your non driver ID. You will get a paper from the dmv when you pass the road test. You will have both on you while driving. Then when you get your license in the mail, put the paper and your non driver id in a safe place. They will be invaluable if you ever lose your wallet. Even if it has expired years ago, you can still use it to prove identity to replace your documents I hope this was helpful.

You only need one of them for identification purposes. A state-issued photo ID is generally used by people who don't have a driver's license, for whatever reason. You can use either one for identification, but obviously you'd need a driver's license to prove you're legal to drive.

most states make u turn in any other i.d cards when you get new ones unless you tell them you lost it. just call your local dmv and ask them

You can have both if you want but you don't need it. Drivers License can also be used as ID. If your license gets suspended or revoked, of course you can't legally operate a vehicle but you can still use it as an ID as long as it hasn't expired.

In Illinois, your Driver's License and your State ID are two different valid forms of identification and that's where the similarities basically end. You keep the ID when you get your license, and if you lose your drivers license because you broke the law, you lose your license, not your state ID. Of course you can't legally drive on your state ID, so if you get pulled over and that's all you have, you get a ticket. If your license was suspended you're arrested. Keep the state ID in a drawer at home. It'll be very handy if your license is lost or stolen.
