Could you use an expired passport as proof of identity for the post office?

Hi my passport is due to expire on the 17th of next month, but i never travel any where anyway and have no imediate or future plans to do so, i mainly use it for i.d at my post office to cash cheques. my question is do i really need to renew it just to use for i.d or can i just carry on using it? i dont really want to risk being refused! (i am british and live in u.k) thanks in advance =)

Answer:
Don't risk it. A store once refused to sell me some items because I had a $100 bill and an expired drivers license.
