Laws regarding students?

Who would I contact about a school that is not adhering to labor laws regarding their students working there?

  • I go to a cosmetology school and sure we have to fix hair in order to get experience. But I do know that the law states that we are to have a break in the morning and afternoon and at least a 30 minute lunch break. There are times when we work through lunch because we have a client and can't leave them to go eat and I understand we have to do this sometimes but today I was on my lunch break when an instructor wanted me to do a perm for a lady and I told her I was on my lunch break.Well, she got an attitude and went to another instructor and told her very sarcastically that I was on lunch break and so she came to me and told me that if I didn't fix the woman's hair that I had to clock out for the day and leave. So I clocked back in and did the woman's hair.I didn't want to go home because I want to keep my hours up and not get farther behind so I can graduate this year and also because we have to pay hourly fee's if we go over the allotted time for the cosmetology course we are in and I can't afford this...none of us can.And they already take hours away when we have been there at school as though we were not there sometimes. They manipulate them quite often in their favor. But anyway, today,I clocked out and had gone out to my car to get a bottle of water out of it and then went back in and that's when everything happened.I told a friend that I was going to file a complaint and as soon as I said it I knew I should not have said anything and they did exactly what I thought they would do... the instructor went to the time system on the computer and put in that I had gone for 30 minutes when I had been gone for 10 minutes and I know she did this because she came and told me with a smug look that I had had my 30 minutes. There is so much more this school does that is not right. So much shady stuff going on.But it has gotten out of hand and I would like some advice if anyone has any.Thanks.
