If I get my GED and a degree can I get a good job?

Will my past keep me from getting a job? I am 43 and wanting to get my GED and get into college for a degree?

• in nursing/medical field. I was 16 when we got married and we had a huge family. I have some things on my background. it's never been anything other than bad checks but 1996 it was a lot of bad checks and it was a felony of theft of over 500 under 5000?? maybe..I can't recall. I was on 2 yrs probation and completed every requirement. But it is still on my record. What jobs can I most likely rule out? I have a great resume and great references. Just stupid crap that I regret whole hearted.I don't want to go to school for 2-3 years and then not be able to get a job because of my past mistakes. Thanks...any help???

  Don't let anyone negative bring you down! I think it's brave of you to get your GED and go to college. Remember that some colleges will have a problem if you have a criminal background but many will allow you to attend. Also, you can tell the interviewer before they complete a background check on you. This will give you leverage. Don't forget you can sometimes write a letter to an employer explaining your situation and how you've learned from it. I know this works. I used to help people with criminal backgrounds get jobs. Congrats on being willing to take that first step. I'M SURE YOU'LL DO REALLY WELL!!
