Should I leave Job A to go to Job B?
-
I currently work at Job A. I like working there. I got an offer from Job B......a company I used to work with in the past and happen to like as well. Job A: full-time, $9/hour, 18k/year offers full benefits including medical. 3% 401kk match eligible at age 60. social security eligible age 67, or sooner for reduced amount. Job B: part-time, $14.50/hour, 15k/year. offers some benefits, but no medical coverage. Offers public pension-plan that i can collect around age 50-55. Offers union protection after 3 months. So If I took Job B......I would look for a 2nd part-time job at night. God knows how long it will take to find one, but that's what I'll do. In the mean time, I still make 15k/year, which is high for part-time. So the decision comes down to: how important are those medical benefits? I can still buy a catastrophic plan for a fairly cheap price without benefits, right? I live at home, so expenses aren't really that big of an issue. although my folks want me to contribute. and please don't say "go back to school and get a degree so you can make real money" long story short, I have a business degree and interviewed for many big-shot jobs, and never got an offer except for one place that screwed me over. So let's be realistic. Job A or Job B? I know you're gonna say "which one are you happier at" but please weigh on and give me your opinion based on the details provided. thank you.

Answer:
There CANNOT be a mathematical answer to your question. EVERYTHING that actually matters is a PERSONAL preference. Which do YOU like more is the ONLY semi-valid answer.

I would secure that "other job" before you take job B. Always think about how much you can make today not tomorrow. What good is 50k -50yrs from now?
