Neighbor sexually harassed on phone.?
-
My neighbor is being sexually harassed on the phone. She's been calling by this strange guy whose calls are always private and talks to her sexually. I'm scared about her. She's already called the police. Her option was to change her number, but she doesn't want to cause problems. Please, is there anything else she can do?

Years ago we had to do call tracing because someone kept harassing us. The police gave us a phone number and after every time this person called we dialed the number and had them trace the last call. This was years ago so I don't know if they still do that or not. Verizon's website says that you dial *57 for call tracing. Also she can have your phone set up through the phone company to NOT accept any private calls and anyone who has a private # has to press like *87 or something like that to be able to call her.
Well, whoever is doing it is likely doing it for some sort of perverted thrill. So consider getting creative before deciding to dump the whole phone line. Consider new ways to answer the phone. Instead of "Hello," try answering with a stern, "This call is being recorded, now what did you want?" Or, "Please hold." Or, "Please hold," then wait a few seconds, and have an imaginary conversation with a police dispatcher that your caller can hear. And of course you can always just laugh at the boob. That's probably the last thing they want to hear. Responding to anything off color you hear with a mildly condescending "Yeah, you'd probably like that, huh?" would not be the response that dilbert is looking for. Lastly, your friend's first problem may be a lack of assertiveness. If the calls really are ongoing, someone's got to commit to pestering the police until they do something about it -- and they *can* even if they initially insist otherwise. Ask youself, what if the mayor's kid were getting these calls?
Put a whistle by the phone and use it as soon as you hear his voice! By no means should you let him talk or speak to him. He will get the message soon enough (and hopefully a nice headache too)
