If people say we can't drug test welfare applicants w/o warrant, why is it legal for business & schools too?
-
under the US constitution's 4th amendment, it doesn't say that only the government can't search you without a warrant, it just says that noone can be searched without a warrant issued with probable cause. so wouldn't the same apply to schools, businesses, and other programs that have random drug testing?

Who is doing the paying? Therein lies the problem, very few things in life are as simple as some would lead us to believe.
You should not have to prove to YOUR GOVERNMENT that you are not a criminal. If you care even a lick about the constitution you should know the intent of the framers and they clearly put the burden of proof on the GOVERNMENT, not the CITIZEN. And I disagree that businesses or schools need to play with their employees urine to know whether or not to hire them. I find that idea to be lazy, stupid, and degrading. I guess some of us are just not used to dropping our freedoms at the feet of authority as you are.
The only reason it's done privately is because people allow it. Lower-class people need money to eat more than they need freedoms.
Yes, it absolutely would be ilegal for school business and other programs as well as welfare, and if you sign allowing it ,then it is still illegal,
Schools can't drug test unless someone signs up for extra-curriculars.
You are aware that Florida is doing it now aren't you? New law. By the way it is illegal for schools except for voluntary extracurricular activities and for business it only for job requiring extra safety like drivers.
There should only be one o in to when used in that context.
For businesses, the prospective employee consents to the drug test. If they don't consent, the employer just chooses not to consider them for hire. For schools, again the student consents to drug test and if they don't consent, they simply aren't allowed to play whatever sports it is that they're wanting to. Being hired and participating in school athletics aren't rights that people have.
Find a job that doesn't make you do it then. Actually it's part of the employment contract YOU AGREE TO, so they can make you do it. Since the Bill of rights is directed AT LIMITING THE GOVERNMENT'S AUTHORITY(well that was until Congress started changing what it meant) it doesn't apply to private companies. If everyone protested the Drug test at a private company then it would either drop it or have no workers.
