Which states require school teachers to eventually obtain a master's degree?

Which states require school teachers to get a Master's degree to keep their job?

  • I know of three: Ohio, New York, Massachusetts.......... are there others?

  • Answer:

    Ohio NY and Mass hire teachers with BA but then they are expected to obtain an MA to remain. In some states special ed, ESL, Social Workers are required to have an MA or MS to be hired Hope this helps

No, currently those three are the only ones to require the Masters and it must be completed in 5 years. Some states that had this requirement in the past were forced to relax the requirement due to a persistent shortage teachers and an increasing cost in education.
