Who is a law clerk ?

A law clerk or a judicial clerk is a person who provides assistance to a judge in researching issues before the court and in writing opinions. Law clerks are not court clerks or courtroom deputies, who are secretaries for the court. Most law clerks are recent law school graduates who were at the very top of their class and graduated from the most prestigious law schools. A law clerk can also be used more generally to refer to a legal intern--or someone who is in law school but working at a firm or in the legal department of a business.

Many Federal Magistrate Judges hire law clerks annually. If you are interested in clerking for a magistrate judge, and meet the minimum qualifications for the position, mail your resume directly to the Magistrate Judge's Chambers. i am not too sure but : A person, typically an attorney, employed as an assistant to a judge or another attorney, especially in order to gain legal experience. maening a person who is getting experience beocming a judge

It can be either a law student working as an intern for a law firm (like during the summer or during the school year) or an attorney who works for a judge helping him research cases and writing legal opinions with him.
