What led to the no taxation without representation*?

The colonies were being unfairly overtaxed by the King of England on sugar, coffee, wine, and tea and they didn't have a say in anything because they had nobody over there in Britain to speak on their behalf in front of Parliament. When the King allowed the East India Co. to unfairly tax the American colonies for tea, that they normally would have had to pay themselves, this ticked off people (the last straw so to speak) so they dumped all the tea in the Boston Harbor. This little incident was later, appropriately named, "The Boston Tea Party." The District of Columbia has no voting rights either. Their license plates have a phrase on the bottom that says, "Taxation Without Representation." Kind of funny. I just saw one the other day.

The people of the American British Colonies were ultimately required to pay taxes but they had no MP (Member of Parliament) representing them. I believe the colonial governor was their "representative" but he was usually, or always, a peer (aristocracy). His were Tory interests and not those of the colonials. I believe people in the colonies were viewed as underclass lower than commoners in the British Isles (bloody provincials).

wasnt that the boston tea party when they threw out all the tea of the ships because they were taxing the tea like crazy without any respresentation in governmnet. thus, the term was coined.
