Went to college, got a degree, now how will I ever get ahead?
-
Sometimes I wonder if I'm just a lost cause. I went to college and got a degree in American Studies because I thought it was the right thing to do. But I ended up having to move back in with the parents, now I'm renting their rental space in their home. I do have jobs, and work property maintenance, home improvements just to make ends meet and pay all my own expenses. However, I have a birthday coming up, and It will be two years since I've graduated, and have been in this "rut." I don't know if it's really a rut though, but some people might view it as that, although I am just working to pay bills and pay off college, but saving what little I can to be able to move on. However, finding a solid and steady job seems tough. Within those two years, I've submitted hundreds of applications with no luck. Then, people keep telling me that it's all about networking. I've had old and young people tell me that, and it turns out, that's how they all have their jobs. So now I Just work on networking. And it's worked so far. I just got an offer to be a substitute teacher for a guys class. However, teaching is something I really don't know if I'm interested in, but everyone keeps trying to push it on me. But then they're like, well, if you're not going to teach, then what are you going to do? And after that I just feel so lost and helpless. Because I don't think I can keep doing property maintenance for the rest of my life, I mean I can, but I don't think I want to.... So then I get really confused. Although I pray about it a lot, sometimes I just feel hopeless , like why can't I just get it together, figure out what I want to do, and just do it. It's so crazy because sometimes it's all I can think about. When all I really want to do is just enjoy life. But I'm afraid if I just keep thinking about it, I'll be 30 still living renting under my parents roof in the same situation. It's not like i'm idle though, everyday is always busy, with life, property maintenance, and thinking about things like this. I am highly productive. I just get worried and confused sometimes and need second opinions, but don't have anyone to talk to. Anyone care to drop some advice? also, ive been to numerous career centers...

Answer:
you are also very long winded and use the I too much. forget about yourself for a little while. look around you. and create your own place in this world. your generation has had the easy life. but now it is time for the real world. you took american studies so then listen and hear what others are saying. get involved in politics and do it right. fix the mess that the voters have allowed to happen. most of the problems in the economy cannot be solved in washington. the biggest part of the problems are with the local governments that have been put into a never ending mandated round house. they accepted federal money that had strings with no end. find a way to cut those strings and save you own community. the mandates are eating up tax dollars faster than the municipal government can collect it, so they are forced to ask big brother for a hand out. and you now know it is hard to beg time and time again. a dollar will only go so far. businesses have been zoned, coded and mandated out of our communities. most smaller cities have been taken over by non profit and poverty. and neither pay taxes. poverty cannot be curbed nor fixed unless there are jobs. and jobs like retail and part time min wage are not the answer. we need the manufacturing of the consumable products returned. you know what i mean, the dress factory, the toilet paper the canneries, the cloth mills, the businesses that the pretty society love to hate. these are the manufacturer that fed and clothed us for the last 200 years. these are the factories that paid for our government and our life style. yes some of them were ugly but not all and all do not have to be. we need them back and they will not come unless the local governments become business friendly. create a platform built on this and run for local office. we need the young to look at the world as it is and see and do what the older generation was too caught up in the apathy that came with the consumer of junk society created. ill even leave you with my e-mail [email protected] if you want another push and are willing to go in this direction.
