Why haven't USA nationalised their healthcare system?

  • I'm interested to know why the USA haven't nationalised their healthcare system given the huge advantages apparent in UK and Canada. Britain's healthcare is amongst the very best in the world and relatively cheap at the cost of only 9% of GDP. America fork out 15% of their GDP system for flawed healthcare services regularly ranked as the worst in the developed world. Aside from the NHS being cheaper and more effective, it is also non-discriminatory. It astounds me to find out that 40 million US citizens cannot afford healthcare. I couldn't imagine a situation in UK where it's a case of 'if you haven't got the money, f off and die!' Britain has the fastest access to GP, best co-ordinated care and suffer from the fewest medical errors of the 11 developed countries surveyed in the most recent rankings of healthcare... That's amazing to me because in the US government run (state and fed) institutions are the worst run in the country. Ask any American about visiting the the DMV or the post office, it is a nightmare. We want to have them run our healthcare? No thanks private sector does a much better job! No ambivalent disinterested government employee is touching me when I am sick!

It's tied up in the Supreme Court for right now. From what I hear England has one of the worst health care systems in the world. If they can afford it your affluent members come to the US for serious procedures instead of waiting around on a waiting list.
