My gal is getting married with a stranger for 'papers', how will i watch them get married?

  • eventhough it might solve all her issues being an alien to this country, i feel that is illegal and terrible!! it is a total stranger paid to be married, they have to be married for atleast 3 years to prove the Govt, how does she expect me to still stay??

    If she is "your gal", why isn't she marrying you? If you care this much, you should be willing to marry her. If not, then you should not be upset about her marrying someone else. As for the legal aspect, they are wrong. I would be hard pressed not to report that.

My best friend is Cambodian and she just turned 20 in April and this happened to her. When we were 16 and in our junior year of high school she left for several months without telling anyone. When she first came back I did not question what happened to her in fear of being seen as nosy. I eventually asked her what happened and she told me that she was sick and that she went to the hospital during this time. I left it alone. But I noticed she was more into her culture and that she had to take the citzen test to become a citizen after all of these years. (she was born in Thailand and moved here when she was three) But I noticed she got more into her culture and the music. So eventually she tells me that she was engaged to be married. We knew that she did not want to go through with it. But she kept saying that she met him and loved him. So when she was about to get married, the weeks prior, all of us was attempting to convince her to tell her parents. She told her parents that she did want to marry him because the guy was like about to be thirty and he was her stepdad's nephew. She was still forced. After she was married to him in Cambodia she came back here before he arrived in eight months. So eight months later she had another ceremony where they made it more official. And so she called me this January to tell me that she was pregnant. So it made me mad. I lost my best friend. I feel for you man. I really do. But I believe that when people are put in situations like that they should allow their happiness should be put first. Forget about family for a moment. But Americans tend to have a different view on arranged marriages. But you should just forget about her and get with someone that has views and morals such as yourself it is less troublesome
