How do I get people to talk to me?

• In normal situations, I would sit around people and listen and talk, but I just can't seem to generate enough attraction for them to talk to me. It is as if nobody cares about me at all. It would be nice if someone came and talked to me instead of me having to go and talk to them for at least once. How do I become popular and get the people to talk to me, without doing anything crazy? I do know that listening to others and not saying too much are good social skills, but I would still like people to talk to me more so I can actually say things to them and make friends with them.
