How to make our christmas enjoyable?

How can i make our christmas an enjoyable time rather than a sad one.? Hi For the last 5 years my child and myself have spent christmas alone. There is no family and although i know alot of people it never occurs to anyone to offer an invitation as i used to when my husband was alive (those people have now left London and i have lost touch). So is there anyone who can offer advise re how i can make our christmas an enjoyable time rather than the sad time that i start to dread when the summer hols are over? thks

Answer:
Hi there, my deepest condolences for the loss of your husband. My dad died when I was 8 so I kind of know about the loneliness around Christmas. Even though my mum had all the kids around her I know she never had a happy time around then after, she always missed him, we all did. Why don't you take your children on holiday if you can afford, somewhere that you can get involved in things rather than sitting at home feeling sad. Even just book into a spar or something. I haven't ever liked Christmas since my dad died, I always feel lonely and cut off, kind of like watching everyone else enjoying it from the outside. You could invite people to your house for the occasion, have a party for the kids and their friends. I even thought of volunteering over Christmas time, to help others and put things in perspective. What ever you do I wish you and your family the best I know it can be hard but you need to get out there and make your life a whole life, I wanted nothing more for my mum than for her to be happy. I know your children will want the same. Take your time grieving but don't make it your life's goal if you know what I mean. All the best.

Plan to spend christmas in the sun or some "children friendly" / fun plac . Book a vacation with an agency specialised in "single parents w/ children" or just take a simple charter trip. Or spend Christmas in Eurodisney or something. You'll be away from home in a place where a lot is happening that you're not used to and can concentrate on having fun with each other and also, meet new people. Plus, you won't have to worry about christmas dinner and all that.

Take a trip away, or invite someone you know to join you for Christmas. You could also do some charity work, such as serving in a kitchen for the homeless or elderly. What about cooking something, and bringing it to an elderly neighbor and make his/her Christmas enjoyable? Christmas is also about giving. it actually makes you feel great when you give to others. I know my heart feels so warm inside when I do charity or volunteer work.
