How should I deal with people I don't like at work?

Why dont people like me at work?

  • I always feel depressed and empty when i come home from work. im just an 18 year old girl working at a temporary job at a local grocery store but i hate it. at first i hated it then i liked it a little only because i liked a guy there but now i hate it again. most of the managers are in their 20s and cocky (not all but most) and play favorites with the prettier girls. im shy. i hate it because everyone seems so cliquey. all the girls my age just want to hang around the guy managers. i just feel so left out, some of the managers have even been rude to me and a lot of the customers. i feel like i have such low self esteem when i am there. no one really reaches out or says hi or bye i feel invisible. they have been hiring some really creepy weird people for some reason too who are really annoying to everyone. i just want to quit. what should i do? im so friendly but its like all the "cool" people hang around. it seriously feels like another high school popularity contest where i just go there do my job and leave and no one really gives a rip about me :(

    lol. If all the managers are there, I'm guessing there's a head manager somewhere that is older than the 20s. I'd just suggest you play work-place politics. You might as well learn how to do that early on in life. It will save you time and effort, and a lot of grievances in the long run. For instance, I'm PRETTY sure, one of those managers don't get along with the other one. Just choose a side and follow him in that sense. Basically what will happen is the "US" vs. "THEM" mentality and will allow you to be naturally included in a struggle for power. Its easy, popularity fades, and its much MUCH easier to destroy than to create. lol. That or separate the "pretty" girls. Divide and conquer my young friend, its the most basic of stratagems of war.

It sounds like secondary school all over again. You don't need to take this. Work for the amount of money, you need, when saved together. & in the meantime search for another job. It's not fair, you get treated like this. Good luck.

well i say just hang in there until you can find another job! and if you are shy are you friendly to the customers smile, etc

People who think they are pretty have skin deep beauty. You on the other hand have a lot to offer to anybody who is willing to go past their vanity. Give yourself time to read good books and to reflect on who you are and what you want to become in ten years. Focus your energy on something you could do very well at your job. Continue being friendly to all with out loosing your sense of self and space. If you do this(say for a month) and nothing changes then it might be time to move on. But make sure you know what you want from your work place before you move on. Somehow, I feel you could do a lot better if you go to College and get a degree in something that gives you a skill that would help you get your dream job. If you work hard at anything and focus on what you want(be it friendship, stimulating work environment, career etc) then there is not a reason that would keep you from getting it. I am a living example. I had a job I did not like but then I went to college and worked at two places later before I got my dream job.Now I love my job and the people here. Good luck.

Can you get a job somewhere else? If you are a shy person like you said and not one of those annoying people, then I would just go somewhere else to work. You don't need that uneasy feeling at work, especially if you have to put on a smile for the customers. And if it's true that some of the managers are rude to the customers, I would talk to someone in human resources or their bosses about that. It doesn't look good for a company where the managers aren't pleasing to the patrons. Good luck to you!

sounds like you are back in high school i had that same problem i found a better job that i like and never look back but beware your next job might be the same you can talk to them about it but chances are they are all gonna spread it around like wildfire so you may not get anywhere with that they all sound immature just go to get your work done and then fly the coop.
