Organ Donors on Coma, what happens?

• So a friend of my sister had a accident, where hes brain didn't get enough oxygen to his head, and fell into a coma, he was in the hospital for 1week, since he was an organ donor my sister said the hospital decided it would be best to remove his tubes and start the process for recovering his organs, now from what my sister said his mom was ageist it but since he was an organ donor supposible, the doctors where able to decide that it would be better to remove his life support. Now we live in Colorado is this true, can the hospital decide if its best to remove an organ donor life support, if the chances of this paciest ever coming back out of a coma are really low?

  Your friend was not in a coma if the organs were used for transplant. It is only when brain death occurs that a person can be an organ donor. (See my link). Coma is not the same as brain death. A person can recover from a coma, but a person can never recover from brain death.. The hospital does not make this decision. If the person is over 18 and has signed up at the DMV or on the state's donor registry, that is considered a legal document in both states, and hospitals are obligated to comply with that person's wishes. It does not matter what other family members want to do. If the person is under 18, then the parents must decide If a person is an organ donor, there are actually more tests done to prove brain death than what is done for a person who is not an organ donor. I am sure his mother was very upset at the time. I hope one day she will understand what a wonderful decision she made. Speaking as a transplant recipient, I want to thank all mothers everywhere who made decisions to let their loss turn into life for up to 7 other people through donation. Her child left this earth as a hero.
