Why does my outer ear hurt after wearing headphones?

Faint ringing when wearing over-the-ear headphones?

  • I use over-the-ear sony headphones, and recently I think I might have tinnitus, but it's really hard to notice when I listen to music or whatever through speakers. But when I put on headphones and have nothing playing (basically just wearing headphones, no music, nothing) I hear this faint ringing. Is it tinnitus, or am I hearing like my blood vessels or something? This happen to anyone else? It's not really noticeable with ear buds, just the over-the-ear headphones.

You may or may not have contracted tinnitus. Small delicate hairs within the Cochlea mechanism(Human Ear)can be forever damaged if you listen to loud music with headphones for extended time. I do not wish to upset you, but the ringing in the ears are now reported to include 5-8 new sounds, (hissing, etc., etc.). I advise you to seek out an Audiologist who can scientifically measure your hearing and evaluate your future hearing status. Harrald
