Why do people have health insurance but they dont use it when they get sick?

people have heath insurance to help with the costs. some insurances do not cover everyhtign so you have to pay a deductible. Example: my aunt just had heart surgery and they payed for the entire procedure and follow up appointments but when it came to her medication she had to pay for it.
