What to wear to a broadway show: Dress up or casual?

  • I am going to go to Chicago on broadway next month, and I don't know what to wear... I don't think it's a black tie event but its not a jeans and t-shirt kinda thing... is it? I'm 14 so I can't look like I'm 30 and we are going at 8pm. I was thinking maybe a plain-ish black dress with tights... so what should i wear?

  • Answer:

i went to a broadway show in New York for the first this past summer with my mom basically everyone was dressed up differently, ranging from casual to formal wear. it doesn't matter what you wear but it's always fun to dress up so that's what we did (just nice casual dresses) what you're wearing sounds just fine have fun!

Normally the show includes dinner too. Wear what's appropriate for the restaurant you will be going to. The plain black dress and tights will be fine in any case. You will see people dressed to the nines and people in street wear. Most split the difference with office wear.

a simple black dress and tights is perfect. don't dress too formally, but absolutely not casual. a nice blouse with a great skirt would work well too!

You shouldnt wear your casual clothes. Wear a black dress and also dark fancy shoes. Do not wear something with words on the clothes. You can also wear your Sunday's best. If your parents let you wear make up, put on a little blue or pink eye shadow.

a little dressy. but don't get over the top dressy.

Broadway shows are semi formal. Wearing a plain black dress is too over done, this is a special event and you don't want to look frumpy. Wear a nice skirt with leggings, a blouse, and heels. Only small children wear tights since you aren't 4 years old wear leggings.Have you hair up in a messy bun. Wear the same make up that you do everyday.

casual! you want to be comfortable because most brodway shows are long so you dont wanna worry about your feet hurting or your dress going up. a nice shirt and jeans with a pair of uggs or sneakers would be perfect.

I have been to many plays and recently attended a Broadway play the dress and tights will be perfectly fine. You are right it is absolutely not a black tie affair. A nice dress or even very nice jeans and a blouse would be perfect.

you dont have to dress u but look nice. like maybe a nice pair of jeans or pants and a blouse and nice jacket. and a nice pair of shoes.
